The choice of Jolley-Harper is interesting. I am sure it costs much less than getting Walz. It is an appeal to the old base. Fulmer (the AD and former football coach) was close with Pat and big on tradition. Personally, I think they should have broken with the past. Jolley-Harper will have plenty of time to fix things. She is loved here. There will be no immediate pressure. I assume she will do better than Holly. Some one with a book Basketball for Dummies would do better than Holly.
Jolley had one big job and they fired her after 4 years. The Tennessee brand has faded a bit. Juniors and sophomores weighing options would have been 7 or 8 the last time UT was really relevant. UConn, ND, Baylor, USC, Louisville, and Mississippi State have been more relevant more recently. UT (like UConn) does not recruit instate much. If the Oregon pipeline dries up, and it should, with both the Ducks and Beavers national powers, UT is going to be hurting.
Above all, I think it shows how women's basketball has faded here. UT did not step up and try to hit a homer. They were content to go for a single or a double and some old grainy video of the distant past.

Her record at Mo State was so-so, but Geno/CD did not roll in to UConn with platinum credentials, but they had a plan.

Her W-L record at places like NCST (quick firing, too, then Wes Moore boosts NCST way up after her) and mid-major MOST, where other than going a couple of rounds deeper than expected helped by clunkers by higher rated seeds too reliant on threes, she did not overly impress.
This is almost an instant replay of Warlick (former star player, LV forever, and female coach). You read the articles and see the quotes by the AD, the past players, current players, hopeful pundits and ESPN -- just replace Kelly with Holly and that was what was said for Warlick, now for the new LV coach that will of course do all things right, the players will work harder and be better, and fans will be rewarded with Tenn revived.
As a non-Tenn fan, I am happy they hired Holly #2. In 3 seasons I will be declaring "Extend Kelly to 2040!"

As a non-Tennessee fan, this is not the worst thing that could have happened. She might be another Holly but probably will have more respect from the players. We will get to see if she can recruit.

Her resume is less than Holly's in certain ways. Can't believe Fulmer figures once burnt, is not going to be twice burnt, just for the LV heritage hope.

Yep...not a ringing endorsement:
".....The fan base certainly will be pulling for Harper. She’s a Tennessee native and a Lady Vol, best remembered as the steady point guard on UT’s three national championship teams from 1996 through 1998. She’s also very likable — as is Warlick for that matter.
This isn’t about liking, though. It’s about winning.
And, in the case of the Lady Vols, it’s about winning at the highest level. Fulmer apparently has faith Harper can do that." -- KnoxNews
