David in Naples: ND remains at 999 victories as a program. Isn't that just wonderful... Muffet and the Irish won the NC in 2001. Since then, she is 1-5 in Championship games. Geno is 9-0 since 2001.

If they lost last year, which they should have, they would be the sort of Buffalo Bills of hoops

I wonder how many times she has been attacked by her players with water bottles?

Not in front of my spreadsheet, but the Finals record is stunning for UConn versus anyone else. Auburn has the worst consecutive Finals loss streak at 3 straight losses back in 1980s. I've termed them the WCBB Buffalo Bills, previously, but McGraw's Finals record is now simply the least successful, or moderately pathetic. One would have to say her last 11 seasons has been relatively lofty accomplishments for most program, but with her tons of AA's over that time, a truly lackluster stretch. 7 poor results across 11 star-stacked rosters seasons.
ND 2009 -- 1st round crash [relatively poor] ND 2010 -- SS loss [poor result] ND 2011 -- Runner up choke [once in Finals, their NC to lose] ND 2012 -- Runner up expected ND 2013 -- FF semis choke [once BU gone, their NC to lose]
ND 2014 -- Runner up expected ND 2015 -- Runner up expected ND 2016 -- SS choke [outright poor result] ND 2017 -- EE crash [poor result vs. expectations] ND 2018 -- NC as one of co-favorites
ND 2019 -- Runner up stumble [defending NC with 5 AA or AA-calibre, plus major foe injury in game]
Such a stretch with so many seasons with 2-5 stars or super stars, and 4 out of 11 expected or single NC result is why Muffet is not in the Top 5 All-Time coaches in my view [Geno, Summitt, Barmore, VanDerveer, and either Mulkey or Rush).
She took over a good ND team in a so-so Conference, and finally got to a FF in her 15th season. In her next 14 seasons, got to FF only 1x (admittedly a NC, but with three excellent players, only 1 FF!). Her big reputation is essentially the last 9 excellent W-L seasons and the 2001 FF/ NC. Her career has really been the proverbial Tale of Two Cities (Track Records).
In a way, she is a highly successful Warlick, who also had scads of high school McDonalds AAs, but Muffett did much better than Holly with all that extra talent flowing into ND. How would Jeff Walz had done with Muffet's players the last 9-10 seasons? I believe he'd have won in 2011, 2018, and 2019 to her 1x. Probably gotten deeper a couple of other times.
