That is it. Tara is hanging it up. Have to wonder if the dissolution of the Pac 12 played a role in her decision. Maybe she did not want to subject her 70-year old body to frequent cross-country flights throughout the season for road games. No matter what the reason, the path is now clear for Geno to achieve the one record that has eluded him....the all time wins total. Even if we fall short of #12 next year, that achievement will undeniably cement Geno as the GOAT by all objective measures! www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/39911025/tara-vanderveer-ncaa-winningest-basketball-coach-retires

Tara, can always say if she hadn’t retired Geno would not have caught her but I firmly believe with the team Tara has for next year . He catches her . Plus Tara has already coached longer

Congratulations on a stellar career! You brought a certain amount of dignity and decorum to women's college basketball. Wishing you well in the next chapter of your life. Job well done at Stanford!

Forty five years was enough for me, too. When it's time, it's time. It's not about the bells and whistles. It's about what's on the agenda when we get up in the morning. Great job, Tara, All the best.
Another point about Stanford. I'm not sure everyone Tara wanted could meet the academic requirements.

My chief complaint about Tara is something that is beyond her control. I really do not like all the hoopla she is receiving for being the all-time winningest coach when Geno is only 3 wins behind her. Most of the articles I read about her accomplishment do not even mention Geno, although a few do. I hope Geno receives just as much attention early next year when he passes Tara!

A number of coaches benefited greatly from Husky injuries. Winning titles they wouldn't or probably wouldn't have won otherwise. Peck. Muffet. Probably Staley. Maybe Tara a few years ago.
But Tara has definitely been one of the good ones!
