Since the women were robbed by the refs for an opportunity to advance with a buzzer-beater, the men are the only team we have left to talk about. I'm re-watching the second half of last night's game as I type this. When they hit their first 3 of the second half, I feared we were in for another barrage like they laid on us in the first half. Thank God the law of averages caught up to them! I love how the men did not blink and just kept plugging away until Alabama finally ran out of gas.
At the beginning of the season, I did not understand all the hype surrounding Stephon Castle. He seemed pretty average to me when he first returned from the knee issue. But if I still had any doubts before, last night erased them completely! He pretty much carried us at the beginning of the game and was a stud throughout!
I really like it when all five starters reach double figures in scoring. Having such diversity helps prevent upsets. If one or two players are off in a game or experiencing tough match-ups, the other players can pick up the slack and keep the train rolling!
Purdue might just be our stiffest test yet. Donovan has experience battling 7 footers in the Big East but none of them were as big as Edey. A men's repeat would take some of the sting out of the women's loss...

Another note on Castle. After Alabama tied the game at 56 all in the second half, on the very next possession Spencer missed a fadeaway jumper and Castle out-dueled three Alabama players for the offensive rebound. What toughness! He then went right back up with the ball against two defenders in his face to draw a foul and made both free throws to give UConn a lead again that the we would not relinquish for the rest of the game. That was a major-league rebound and possibly a turning point in the game...
