Massey has #2 UConn beating #29 'Cuse 80-61 @ 92%. I think our Five will be on a mission to stop 'Cuse's offense... avoiding foul trouble... with Ice and Q getting more minuutes.
Their top scorer, Dyaisha Fair, is a 5-5 grad student who shoots an average of 5 FTs a game at 80%.

Sure, the analytics and models auger well for us in this game. But there is a glaring fact that has me concerned. Notre Dame had their way with us at our place and delivered a double digit beatdown. Well...Syracuse beat the Irish TWICE during the regular season. The first one was a hard fought 5 point squeaker at home. The second was a convincing 14-point whacking, in a revenge game in South Bend no less, 3 days before the Irish took that loss out on us.
Maybe the 'Cuse just match up better against the Irish. Maybe the Irish just played over their heads against. Maybe we just sucked in that ND game (side note - I'm pretty sure the analytics and models predicted us winning beforehand). Whatever the reason, those head-to-head results against ND concern me.
Accordingly, I don't want to be predicting any large victory margins. I just want a win to advance to the Sweet 16 with no injuries.

From then on ND closed with a 22-7 run. Would they have done so with Nika in the game? Nika had the only +/- with +13 on the NCAA box. Next was Paige with a -5. NCAA Box: fightingirish.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/2359376.pdfP.S. I had forgoten Nika played only 19 minutes in the game. Tough to win without her for half the time.

They did play over their head but we helped by not showing up to match their intensity. That won’t happen again!!

But would you agree that we were dominated in the second quarter when they outscored us 30-14? And also the 4th quarter when they similarly doubled us up 22-10? Kudos to us for making a run to close the gap before collapsing at the end. But does an in-game spurt to temporarily tighten the score negate entire quarters where we look like a JV team and got more than doubled up? To me, those two quarters and also the final score justify my choice of word. I would also argue that Nika's defense was absent for way more than just the time after she fouled out. Getting two fouls in the 1st quarter and another in the second not only forced her to tone down her aggressiveness but limited her court time as well. She took herself out of that game with fouls. They led to her only playing 19 minutes in the game.
