I am pretty tired of hearing about Clark's scoring prowess. That frustration led me into a FB debate about who was a better college player - Stewie or Clark. I did some research to support my contention that it was Stewie. Allow me to share those numbers with you guys. I provide my source at the end.
- For her college career, Stewie shot 1020/1925 for 53%. She accumulated those numbers over 152 games. She thus averaged 12.7 shots per game over her career.
- Clark has so far shot 1185/2547 for 46.5%. She accumulated those numbers over 128 games. She thus averages 19.9 shots per game.
- If Stewie took the same number of shots as Clark per game, she would have taken 1094 more shots in her career [(19.9-12.7) x 152 games]
- For her career, .7777 of Stewie's shots were 2 pointers (1497/1925). .2223 were 3 pointers (428/1925). Applying those same percentages, those 1094 additional shots would have broken out into 851 more 2 point shots (.7777 x 1094) and 243 more 3 point shots (.2223 x 1094)
- For her career, Stewie hit .580 of her 2pt shots and .355 of her 3pt shots. Applying those same percentages, she would have made 494 additional 2pt FG (851 x .580) and 86 more 3pt FG (243 x .355)
- 494 additional 2 pt FG equals 988 additional points. 86 additional 3pt FG equals 258 points. Add them together and Stewie would have scored 1,246 additional points in her career if she took the same number of shots as Clark does and hit those shots at the same percentages in her career average
- Stewie scored 2,676 points in her college career. Adding in the additional 1,246 points calculated above would have given her 3,922 for her college career. Clark is currently sitting at 3,617 points....305 points behind what Stewie's total would have been if she took the same number of shots per game as Clark does.
- And oh by the way...I threw in Stewie's FOUR rings as icing on the cake of my argument. However, my opponent dismissed the championships as being not applicable to the debate since they are not individual accomplishments. They are team accomplishments.
