Thanks for launching us, Russ, I'll be tracking the box and play-by-play until highlights are posted. The Big East has four teams in the top 51: #2 UConn, #21 Creighton, #40 Marquette and #51 'Nova.
Massey has it #2 UConn beating #51 'Nova 76-56. I suspect UConn's scoring will be closer to 90.
The starters are working well. I'm enjoying their playing five beyond the arc at times, opening the middle for a drive to the hoop and when Aaliyah's defender sags, she has a shot at a long 2.
My focus is on Ice and Q, both bring something we need off the bench with only six games to go before the Sweet 16 I'm rooting for them to improve, especially for Ice to foul less and Q to return to the 3s groove. She shoots at 37% and is 2-3 in the last three games.

Another Big East blowout today. We beat them by 21 at their place just 4 weeks ago. Playing at home, I'd expect us to exceed that. Paige and Aaliyah led us last time. That is something else I expect to happen again today.

Meh. Not a very impressive first half performance. Basically the Paige and Edwards show.

The UConn team I am watching tonight, up 49-42 with 8:22 to go in the game, does not have a snowball's chance in hell of winning the national championship. Paige is doing her best and Edwards is getting beat up with no calls. The rest of the players in white are contributing nothing. This is a home game against a mediocre opponent and we are struggling.

Meh. Not a very impressive first half performance. Basically the Paige and Edwards show. They will need more from others in the big dance. I wish Nika would hit those open threes she takes. The freshmen were a no show tonight. We left 20 points on the floor:

Defense was strong. Olsen averages 23 ppg and was held to 6.
Winning by 21 on an off night works for me. Holding them to 20 under their average is good.

Winning by 21 on an off night works for me. Holding them to 2 under their average is good. I don't know man...we beat them by that much at their place a month ago. This game was on our home court. I'm not used to UConn teams having off nights on their home court against mediocre, unranked opponents. It was a 7-point game early in the 4th quarter. Good that we finished with a flurry but the last 8 minutes of the game did not make me forget the first 32 minutes where everyone not named Paige or Aaliyah played uninspired basketball. Sure...the defense was solid. It generally is against conference foes. But what happens to that defense when we face ranked teams? NC State gets 92, UCLA gets 78, Texas gets 80, Notre Dame gets 82, and South Carolina gets 83. We both love our Huskies but I can't view them through blue-tinted glasses. I am a spoiled UConn fan. I know what a UConn championship team looks like. From what I see, this year's team just does not rise to that standard. Next year, however, I think we will have an excellent chance at winning #12...IF Aaliyah comes back. Picking up another post player from the portal would not hurt either. Paige/Azzi/KK/Ash/Q and maybe Nika as well are a championship quality back court both in terms of talent and depth. Aubrey/Ice and untested Patterson/El Alfy are not a championship level front court in my opinion. But all that changes if Aaliyah joins long-time teammates Paige, Azzi, and Aubrey for one last hurrah. I have a feeling next year might be Geno's last too. If Aaliyah thought that, it might influence her to come back. She just signed a NIL deal in Canada. That should any financial reasons for turning pro....

It was what it was. Accept what is and move on.

Rose colored glasses? Nah. It was what it was. Accept what is and move on. I said "blue" tinted glasses because I feel that is what it took to draw any positives from what I personally viewed as a mediocre performance against Villanova. I have 'accepted'....accepted the fact that we are not going to win #12 this year. That is the standard Geno has set at UConn. I think the players would agree. Anything short of that is a disappointment...doubly so in view of pre-season expectations that were dashed for the third year in a row by injuries. BE Champions is nice but in previous years we would pooh pooh that accomplishment because we had our sights on bigger prizes. This year, we are going to have to relish a conference championship because a natty is not forthcoming. Be that as it may, I am not ready to move on from this season yet. Want to see how far these Huskies can go in the tourney. We should at least make it out of the first weekend. That tourney experience will be good for KK, Ash and Q. Next year, they will know what to expect. Next year could very well bring #12 but there are some 'ifs' attached....if Edwards comes back and if we stay healthy all year. I am thinking it may be Geno's last year too. That goes double if we win #12 for him next year, enabling him to go out on a high note.

It shows how much our presets influence opinions. As for #12 it will happen or not. The critical issue is how UConn plays with the roster they have. Hvaing a full roster doesn't change the fact that only five play at a time. This has been a great year for me. I'm committed to the idea that's it's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game.
