Better box score: uconnhuskies.com/documents/2024/3/9/32_Providence_Box.pdfBrady was +28. Really worried about Edwards. Second half turnovers were way down. 15 total turnovers but I think they had 10 in the first half. At least. So only five in the second half I believe. Even with the subs in quite a lot. too bad Amari wasn’t available. It was really worrisome with Brady having four fouls fairly early in the second half.

UConn women's basketball defeats Providence in Big East Tournament, Aaliyah Edwards leaves with injury Maggie Vanoni UCONN's Paige Bueckers shoots over Providence defender Nariah Scott in the first half of their Big East Tournament women's basketball quarterfinals
Blood began to drip onto the court as another UConn women’s basketball nightmare became reality.
The star senior, the Huskies’ lone experienced big, left the court at 6:02 in the third quarter to a standing ovation. A towel, originally white but now staining pink, covered her face while she walked into the locker room. Her day over.
With just seven available players to finish the game, top-seeded UConn, somehow, someway, pulled out an 86-53 win over No. 9 Providence in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals Saturday to advance to a conference tournament semifinals for the 36th straight year.
The Huskies will face the winner of No. 5 Marquette-No. 4 Villanova Sunday at 2:30 p.m. for a chance to play in their fourth-straight Big East Tournament championship game.
While UConn (27-5) has learned how play shorthanded all year long, not having its best forward on the floor made its already small margin of error that much smaller. And it didn’t help, the Huskies were battling through foul and turnover trouble all afternoon too.
UConn entered the game with just eight available players, as Amari DeBerry remains out due to a concussion.
Not surprisingly, it was Big East Player of the Year Paige Bueckers who came to UConn’s rescue.
The star guard missed a pair of free throws after Edwards’ injury was called an intentional foul on Providence (13-20). But then she went off.

Bueckers made bucket after bucket. She made driving into the crowded lane look easy and shot from deep with ease. On defense, she ripped away loose balls and swatted away Providence’s shot attempts.
The redshirt junior scored 11 points in the third quarter, including five straight shots.
Edwards’ absence left Bueckers as the only experienced player down low. While she’s a true guard, Bueckers has shifted into the power forward role this season and on Saturday her frontcourt skills were on full display.
She stalked the space under the hoop, muscled her way through defenders to grab rebounds and found her open teammates.

Bueckers finished with 29 points, nine rebounds, six assists, three blocks and three steals in 38 minutes
While Bueckers did the heavy lifting, KK Arnold rose up big in her first career postseason game. The freshman guard was the fastest on the floor and the best defender all afternoon. She consistently got in the face of Providence’s players and frustrated them by mirroring their movements into rushing passes and turning the ball over.
And it wasn’t just on defense. The point guard was quick to find her spot on the floor. She drained back-to-back 3-poitners in the first quarter and her steal-and-score in third put UConn up by eight.
Arnold finished with 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and one steal in 37 minutes.

Nika Mühl's assist to Arnold's 3-pointer at 3:42 in the fourth tied the Croatian with Husky legend Jennifer Rizzotti for No. 3 on UConn's all-time career assist list.

Maggie Vanoni @maggie_vanoni Geno Auriemma: "The way we responded that second half and how our players performed was tremendous. ... I was really really happy with these guys. I wish we had a couple days between games."

The +/- column adds a lot to the box. It's good to know that Ice isn't a liability, although she does foul more than most... 1/7.9 minutes versus Aaliyah's 1/12.3 min. Still, post players seem to be more susceptable to fouling.

I think Brady played 16 minutes in the Second half. Picked up only one foul in that time. Certainly not spectacular but played pretty solid basketball I think. It would sure be nice if Amari were available..
